The athletes below are considered the top twenty-five track and field athletes in La Salle's history regardless of gender, or era. Although we have made every attempt to be objective, it is possible that the list is slightly skewed towards athletes of the most recent era. This is mainly because of a lack of knowledge regarding teams of the past era. I made every attempt to contact past athletes and coaches and extended an open invitation to those who would have specific knowledge of La Salle's track history. Maybe this list will spark enough of a debate to lure advocates of favorite outstanding athletes to come forward with some historical perspectives that will influence placement on this list. The considerations for making this list include: outstanding marks, importance to the team, sportsmanship, and event dominance,

Top-25 All-Time Track and Field Athletes

     
25 Laurel Kuhn Did everything from the 200 meters, 100 meter hurdles, 400, 800, 1600 meters and all sprint relays.
24 David Taylor Probably the most talented athlete of his era. Participated in 3 CIF finals (96-98).
23 Andrew Mahlmann Broke the oldest quality record on the LS boy's top-ten lists. Very talented multi-event athlete.
22 Jessica Horn Participated in 3 CIF finals in the Pole Vault. Capping her career by finishing 2nd in 2002. #1 on the girls PV top-10 list.
21 Nick Thompson All-around athlete that was elected to the LS hall of fame as a Sophomore & Senior.
20 Justin Lucas #2 100 meters, #2 200 meters, #6 400 meters. Also on #1 400 meter & 1600 meter relay teams.
19 Mark Gilbreth Possibly the best all-around LS athlete of his era. Still #1 in the Pole Vault.
18 Greg Artis Superb jumper that still (since 1989) ranks #1 on the LS top-ten list in the long jump and #9 on the Triple Jump list.
17 J. P. Hall Finished 6th in 1993 in CIF track finals. This is as much a X-country tribute as track.
16 David Minguez Versatile athlete; pole vault school record holder, outstanding leadership abilities; #2 all-time in 300 meter hurdles
15 Michele Dannhausen CIF Discus Champion (2005). Three time consecutive League Discus Champion. League Shot Put Champion (2004).
14 Kjersti Housman Multi-event athlete that lead her teams to 4 consecutive league titles. Scored 26 total point in CIF career.
13 Shannon Skager Scoring in each of her 4 events (with PRs in all) playing a major role (18.25 points) in the team's 2002 CIF team title.
12 Hanna Miller LS's first girl individual CIF Champion (1600 meters, 1995) and former holder of LS 3200 meter record.
11 Gina Clayton Two timed CIF individual champion in the 800 meters (1999-2000). Also top-ten in 1600, 3200, 400 & 200 meters.
10 Mary Jo Alexander The most integral component of the 2000 "dream year", a consummate team leader. Appears on numerous top-ten lists.
9 Margaret Sitker School record holder in the 3200 meters and #2 all-time in the 1600 meters; #5 all-time at 800 meters;  "the distance team"
8 Kendall Grant Placing in every one of his events (4) in CIF '98 lead to the boy's highest finish in school's up to that time.
7 Westley Riley 2006 CIF champions and school record holder in 800 meters (1:55.67); #2 all-time in 400 meters; on more top ten list than any other male athlete in school's history.
6 Daniella Russell Spearheaded the Lancer 2000 CIF championship with the greatest 4 x 100 anchor leg in school's history.
5 Tamara Bryant A double CIF individual champion in 2002. #1 on both the shot put and discus top-ten list.
4 Brandi Charles The only LS athlete (any sport) to win three consecutive CIF individual championships (shot put 97-99).
3 Natalie Calderon On more top ten lists than any other athlete in LS history. On the only two LS track CIF championship teams and 1 CIF championship soccer team as well.
2 John Caulfield Very rarely can a two event athlete propel his team to championships. A state meet participant..
1 Mark Ruelas Simply the best overall marks of any La Salle athlete (8:58.3 3200m; 4:14.2 1600 meters). A state meet participant.
