PLANT CLASSIFICATION PROJECT

DUE: Day 3 Cycle 6

50 points

Take pictures of ten samples of plants (from subphylum spermopsida), from your yard, from the school grounds, from somewhere along your travels. Prepare a portfolio of the photos. The photos should show you with the plant and close-up of the evidence you used in classifying the plant.  Next to the photos you should have the following information:

1.)What is the common name of the plant?

2.)What is the scientific name (genus and species) of the plant?

3.)Is it a monocot or a dicot?

4.)What evidence did you use to determine whether it was a monocot or a dicot?

5.) Is it an angiosperm, gymnosperm, or a conifer.

When choosing your samples, be careful not to choose any mosses(bryophytes). Each of the samples should be fairly different from one another. When naming your samples, you may want to consult an encyclopedia, a horticultural reference book, or you may find a visit to a nearby nursery just as informative.

Remember to clearly mark your name and period on your project
